10 Safety Tips For Buying On eBay

EBay has become a household name for shoppers. A lot the buyers on eBay are not regular internet shoppers but they still shop on eBay. Such is the power of eBay giving simplicity of shopping and top bargains. From time to time, there is some fraud on eBay about fake fashion items, event tickets that do not exist, some expensive electronic items that do not exist.

EBay does its best to intervene and resolve such disputes. As a shopper, you can follow these 10 safety tips to avoid being conned.

Check the seller’s feedback. Positive feedback rating of over 95% is good. If there are many recent negative feedbacks, then this is not a good indication. Also, read all the negative feedbacks. Are these negative feedbacks reasonable? What type of response does the seller have for these feedbacks? Does the seller’s defense sound reasonable? Sometimes new members who buy items on eBay are paranoid and they leave a negative feedback in a haste so make sure if the seller has defended himself/ herself in a reasonable manner. If there are too many complaints of the same nature, then it is probably true.

The sellers must have some kind of identification or recognition seal like PayPal verified, or Square trade or a Power seller seal on the auctions. Such sellers are more reliable. This is especially a good check when you buying an expensive item.

Ask seller a question before bidding on the item. Responsible sellers reply promptly to questions. Also, if the seller actually has the item, he/ she maybe able to answer a valid question otherwise not.

If you are buying something expensive, then get the contact information of the seller at http://search.ebay.com/. You have to login to your eBay account and send a request. You can get the seller’s address and phone number. In doing this, your address and phone number will also be emailed to the seller.

The items must have pictures unless it is a service that is sold on eBay. If there is no picture, then the items is probably not there. Almost all sellers will put at least one picture of the item. Let’s assume that the item is there but the seller has been lazy in not putting the picture in the auction a d. Would you like to deal with someone who is so careless? It just shows that the item may not be in good condition, maybe defective or broken.

Check description of the item. Research other websites for the same item. Some of the shopping websites to research would be shopping.yahoo.com, overture.com and shopping.msn.com. These sites are adequate for researching items and get the description that you need. The eBay description should match item description on other sites.

Research prices for the item on sale. If the item on sale is Gucci handbags, then search for this model of handbag on shopping.yahoo.com. If it retails for $800 on Yahoo and seller on eBay is selling a brand new one for $90, then this item may not be authentic! Large wholesaler are able to sell items for around 50% of retail but something like an original Gucci handbag, it is unlikely that a seller would let go for $90 because these items sell like crazy. Just a note on fraud items – a lot of fraud eBay occurs on fashion items. This is very unfortunate and eBay has taken a lot of steps to eliminate fraud.

If the seller has not mentioned any shipping and handling terms, then ask before bidding. There are many auction ads, where the seller mentions that shipping and handling will mentioned to the winning bidder. Surprisingly, there are bids on that item! If you start bidding on the item, then it means that you agreed to the terms and condition of the sellers and there is less room for you to dispute later so ask for the clear instruction on shipping and handling.

Reliable sellers have clear description on their refund policy. If it is not there, then ask the seller for it. If the seller has no refund policy, then do not bid on the item. If the there is no refund policy in the auction description, then make sure you get the refund policy in an email from the seller. In this way, you have a document of the refund policy.

Do a search for the sellers past items on eBay. Check to see if the seller has sold similar items in the past. To search on the past auctions, go to the Advanced Search page. Here click on the items by seller link and type in the sellers ID and check the box for Include Completed listing. It is always good to check this especially if you are considering buying something expensive.

Demi Moore Spent a Wild Night on the Town Prior to Treatment

Exhaustion, seemingly a common affliction but also one for which only ultra-wealthy celebrities are ever treated, has overcome Demi Moore. Whether it was the rigors of trying to keep the interest of younger ex-husband Ashton Kutcher, who is 33-years-old, or something else entirely is up in the air. What is clear, however, is that before she went into treatment for "exhaustion," she was partying it up with her young daughter, Rumer Willis. Maybe trying to keep up with the 23-year-old is what did her in.

The 49-year-old actress went out on January 11 wearing a short black skirt and a striped sweater. Arriving at Beacher’s Madhouse at the Roosevelt Hotel at about 11 P.M., she was at first rather reserved, but began to heat up as the night wore on. Said one person who was at the scene that evening, "When she first arrived, she kept to herself, but she started loosening up and getting into party mode. She seemed really happy to be out with her daughter's friends."

It didn’t appear that Moore was drinking that evening, but did seem to be enjoying the attentions of young men, especially 90210 actor Ryan Rottman. Said the same source, "She found ways to touch him all night, and at one point when he was in front of her, she was grinding on his butt. His shirt came unbuttoned, and she started tickling his bare chest playfully." That does, indeed, sound incredibly exhausting, so perhaps that part of the mystery is solved.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Shield Kids from Tabloid Rumors

In recent conversations with the media, Brad Pitt has shed some light on what it's like to be a father to a growing family while at the same time being one of the most famous people in the world - and being married to a woman who is perhaps even more famous. He explained that, at home, he and Angelina have blocked their names from being searched on their home computers. That means that the kids can't search Google or anywhere else to read tabloid rumors - and other stories - about their famous parents.

Of course, as the children get older - and Maddox is already 10 - they're going to have countless opportunities to do their own research, should they choose to do so. But at their current ages, it's hard to argue with the approach of simply avoiding those topics and conversations that might be impossible to adequately explain to children. As the children mature, they'll have a much better chance of grasping the complexity of their parents' relationship and their own unique places in the world.

At this point, it's highly unlikely that the children have any idea just how famous their parents are - or just how famous they themselves are - on a global scale. That's a concept that has proven impossible for even well-adjusted adults to grasp. When that sometimes-troubling reality is coupled with an entire media industry that exists to create salacious stories and rumors about famous people, it's completely understandable that so many celebrities struggle with their fame.

There is already an entire generation of Hollywood children who are likely going to be in the public spotlight for their entire lives, regardless of what they choose to do with themselves. From the Jolie-Pitt brood to Suri Cruise to the children of countless other celebrities, it's going to be very difficult to escape the fame and attention that they were born into.

Liam Neeson Talks About Intense Cold While Filming "The Grey"

Actors and actresses occasionally have to go through quite a lot for their craft. Harrison Ford once tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee while doing his own stunts for a film, and there are routinely injuries ranging from minor to severe on movie sets, especially those that feature a lot of live-action stunts. One thing you may not think about is surviving the cold while filming a movie, but that’s exactly what the actors from "The Grey" had to do while filming for the popular movie, and lead actor Liam Neeson has shared some interesting stories from the movie’s filming.

"The Grey," directed by Joe Carnahan, was filmed in Canada, and Neeson has noted that it presented some challenges. "The elements in general were pretty tough," said Neeson in an interview with the New York Post. "There were a couple of days that I got brain freeze. The function between the brain and the mouth to speak the words just wasn’t working. We were all fumbling over lines, and Joe got a bit antsy a couple times, thinking we hadn’t learned the lines. It was just hard to get that thought to make it work."

Interestingly, it wasn’t just difficulty delivering lines that the cast and crew had to deal with. Carnahan himself suffered mild frostbite on his hands and toes while filming and the hydraulic oil in the camera crane actually froze on several occasions. Carnahan noted that the set could only be accessed by snowmobile. Said Carnahan, "In one scene, I remember someone saying, ‘If we do another take, we run the risk of Liam getting the onset of frostbite.’ There was such a desperation [in his performance] because there’s a desperation in that moment, because he wanted to keep warm."

Fox News Tops Ratings for 10th Straight Year

Fox News celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2011 and, at the celebration party, Fox News president Roger Ailes told the roughly 700 staff members that "losing is highly overrated as a learning experience." Well, it turns out that Ailes and his employees don’t have to worry too much about that. After the numbers were tallied for the month of January, the so-called "fair and balanced network" was at the top of the cable news ratings yet again, the 10th time in a row that has happened.

For those who may not have tuned into Fox News, it generally presents alternate stories and coverage of events from that of the other mainstream media. The coverage – if opinion may be inserted here – is no more "fair and balanced" than that of CNN or CNBC, but it does come from a notably different perspective. Alas, Fox News appears only to offer counter-balance and works in tandem with its "liberal" media foes to perpetuate the fallacy that is the two-party political system in this country.

Asked about the success of the network, Bill Shine, the executive vice president of programming for the Fox News Channel, spoke at length. Asked what was the best and biggest strategic move the network has made over the past 10 years – an especially relevant question given the run of success over that time period – Shine answered, "I don't know if I could single out one thing. What happened was—keep in mind, over the course of those 10 years, a lot of news has happened. You had an impeachment, the 2000 election, Bush-Gore, of course 9/11, Iraq, Afghanistan, the Middle East, hurricanes, Katrina, the D.C. sniper, natural disasters, politics. So there's been a lot of news."

Shine added, "Those viewers who came in for the big story stayed to sample our programming. More and more of those people stayed. At the same time, we had a lot of people talking about us, on talk radio and in the news media, the media press, talking about what we do. So it was also about us getting recognized for what we were doing."

An Overview of "The Hunger Games"

Unless you live under a rock, you’ve probably at least heard of The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. The novel was published by Scholastic in 2008, and is the first in a trilogy that includes Catching Fire and Mockingjay as the subsequent books in the series. The book has been wildly popular with adults and teens alike, and will be released as a movie later this year.

The Plot

In The Hunger Games, we are introduced to several teenaged characters who find themselves in the unlikeliest of circumstances. In this dystopian novel, the United States of America is no more, and the states are replaced with twelve state-like entities called districts. There was a thirteenth district at one point, but it has been destroyed because the people of District Thirteen rebelled against the Capitol. The Capitol is the most prosperous part of the country of Panem, and the one that controls what happens in the rest of the districts. It is in what we know as Denver, Colorado. As the audience, the district we are focused on is District Twelve, where our narrator, Katniss Everdeen is from. This district is in what we know of as Appalachia. Because of previous rebellions against the Capitol, every year, each district is forced to send one male and one female between the ages of twelve and eighteen to fight in the Hunger Games, where the teenagers fight to the death. Only one can make it out alive.

The Characters

Katniss Everdeen is the narrator of the book, and is one of the strongest female characters in young adult literature to date. She volunteers to take the place of her younger sister, Prim, in the Hunger Games, and after that she ends up using both her intelligence and her incredible skill with a bow and arrow to play the game. Peeta Mellark is her fellow tribute from District Twelve. The son of a baker, he is adept at camouflage. He also has a huge crush on Katniss, which poses some problems for them as the Games go on. Gale Hawthorne is Katniss’s best friend and hunting buddy from District Twelve. It becomes obvious through the book that he also has a crush on Katniss. The book is peppered with several other memorable characters, such as Effie Trinket who bounces about, getting Peeta and Katniss ready for the games as well as Cinna, the stylist for the tributes from District Twelve. Among the most memorable characters is Haymitch Abernathy, a previous winner of the games who has now turned to alcohol to self-medicate his symptoms of PTSD.

The Movie

In March 2012, The Hunger Games will be released as a movie. This much-anticipated film will surely be met with huge crowds at midnight showings. Since both teenagers and adults have fallen in love with these books, there will surely be a line at the ticket booths on the opening weekend. The cast of the movie is made up of seasoned veterans and up-and-coming actors to create the feel readers expect. Jennifer Lawrence will play Katniss, and she will be accompanied by Josh Hutcherson as Peeta, Liam Hemsworth as Gale, Woody Harrelson as Haymitch, Donald Sutherland as President Snow, Elizabeth Banks as Effie Trinket, and Lenny Kravitz as Cinna. With these stellar actors, among many others, the audience can expect an awesome show. The movie will have a PG-13 rating to allow the teenagers who love the book to see it unattended, but many people are worried that the gruesome nature of the book will not be able to be portrayed onscreen with this rating. Only time will tell if the movie will live up to the text.
